Solseed: Journey to Spring (128K Edition)

A familiar journey. More secrets to uncover.

The forest is bigger now and its paths are more closely connected. Choose your route carefully: one path may lead you closer to your goal, while another may take you deep into the forest or even send you back towards where your journey began.

The original 48K adventure was only the beginning of the journey.

What's New?

If you've played the original 48K version, much of the forest will feel familiar. But something has changed. There are places you haven't seen yet.

  • 42 screens - a much larger forest than the original 48K version, with 18 new screens, rooms, paths and secrets
  • AY music - for a richer atmosphere throughout your journey
  • Redefinable keys - configure the controls to suit your preferences
  • A bigger world to explore - with new rooms, paths and challenges

The 128K Edition takes advantage of the additional capabilities of the ZX Spectrum 128K to make the world of Solseed more magical.

The Story

The elf has just awakened from a long winter sleep, only to discover a harsh truth - spring never came.

A bitter, supernatural frost has frozen the forest in its grip. Ice and snow have trapped the ancient trees, the bright flowers have vanished, and an icy silence has fallen across the land.

To break the eternal winter and bring warmth back to his home, the elf must embark on a dangerous journey in search of the 12 Solseeds, ancient magical seeds with the power to melt the ice and awaken nature.

His journey begins in his underground home.

From there, he must venture into the frozen forest, travel deeper through the snowy wilderness, and eventually reach the lands where winter is beginning to lose its grip.

But the forest is not empty.

There are hidden paths. Locked passages. Dangerous creatures. Forgotten places. And secrets waiting to be uncovered.

The journey to spring begins again. Same adventure. Bigger forest.

The Challenge

Some parts of the forest can simply be passed through. Others will require careful exploration. You may find a key that opens a passage you discovered much earlier. You may notice something hidden in a place you thought you had already explored.

And somewhere in this frozen world, Solseeds are waiting.

Maybe you'll find all 12 Solseeds. Maybe you'll discover every hidden room. Maybe you'll find your way through the entire forest.

But one thing is certain: Spring won't come on its own.

Put on your elf hat. Step into the snow. And find your way to spring.

The forest is waiting and rewards those who are patient.

Will spring come again?

Download the game, load it into your favourite emulator (such as Fuse or SpecEmu), or transfer it to a real ZX Spectrum 128K and begin your journey to spring!

Download (zip file) includes .TAP file with the game, .WAV file for loading on real ZX Spectrum hardware, Printable cassette cover (J-Card) with game instructions.

A Little Bit of ZX Spectrum History

Based on the available ZX Spectrum archives and documented releases, Solseed: Journey to Spring (128K Edition) appears to be the first publicly released original 128K ZX Spectrum game from Serbia, created entirely by a solo developer.

A Note from the Author

I made a Serbian (my native language) version as a little throwback to the days when kids across Yugoslavia grew up playing 8-bit games and swapping tapes. A nostalgic touch for everyone from the former Yugoslavia who remembers those days.

The warm response from the Spanish and Portuguese ZX Spectrum communities to the original 48K version has meant a great deal to me. As a thank you for the welcome and support, I’m happy to make Solseed 128K available in Spanish and Portuguese, so you can experience the journey in your own language.

Physical Relase

I am looking for a retro publisher to help bring Solseed to a physical cassette release.

If you are interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you!

An excellent game, now featuring atmospheric music. I included it in a video alongside other ZX Spectrum games released in September.

My fat fingers + mobile phone = accidental deletion. 😅

That’s why your info post is missing. If possible, could you please post it again?
